Overview

Objective

SpringCM's new navigation is designed to improve the efficiency of the platform by pulling the global elements of our navigation into a consistent, top-level header. The goal is to make it quicker for you to find the things you need and easier for you to get to where you need to go.

Admin How To

Customize account navigation header

A new Navigation & Actions page is available in Account Settings. The addition of this page makes it so that non-admin users can no longer change their own homepage and customize their personal navigation.

Show or hide navigation and action items for all users in the account or customize based on Persona. Only administrators can perform this action. Keep in mind that User Role access levels may override your customizations.

The Address Book and Forms pages are turned off for users by default, but you can turn these pages back on for users from the Navigation & Actions page.

Note: All navigation links are visible to all administrators, so if you choose to change account navigation settings, you cannot see the changes unless you log back in as a Full Subscriber (or other non-administrator role).
  1. Log in to SpringCM with your administrator credentials.
  2. Click the Admin link in the navigation header.
  3. Click the Navigation & Actions link under Account Preferences.
  4. Choose an option from the "Who is this for?" dropdown list. The Account Default option sets navigation for the entire account. The other options populate from your security groups.
  5. Choose an option from the "What are you customizing?" dropdown list. The list populates with any customizable navigation items (e.g., navigation header for your account's users) and the default is the user navigation header.
  6. Slide the toggle buttons to turn page links on or off for users. Sliding a toggle to the right makes the link visible in the navigation header. Sliding a toggle to the left turns visibility off for users.
  7. Click the Save button to save your changes.

The next time your users log in to SpringCM, they see the changes reflected in their navigation header.

Set an account homepage

A new Navigation & Actions page is available in Account Settings. You can change the account homepage for users on the Navigation & Actions page in Account Settings. Users are redirected to the account homepage when they click the company icon in the top-left corner.

Only administrators can perform this action. Non-admin users can no longer change their own homepage and customize their personal navigation.

The out-of-the-box setting for the homepage is Documents. This remains your account homepage unless you change it.

  1. Log in to SpringCM with your administrator credentials.
  2. Click the Admin link in the navigation header.
  3. Click the Navigation & Actions link under Account Preferences.
  4. Choose Account Default in the "Who is this for?" menu.
  5. Choose User Navigation Header in the "What are you customizing?" menu.
  6. Hover your cursor over the desired page row in the Customize User Navigation Header For Account Default list.
  7. Check the Set Homepage checkbox that appears when you hover.
  8. Click the Save button to save your changes.

The next time your users log in to SpringCM, their homepage destination changes.

Set an account icon

Admins can set a homepage in Admin > Account Preferences > General. SpringCM then navigates users to the page designated as "home" whenever they click the home button. In previous releases of the SpringCM platform, users would have clicked the home_button button to navigate to their homepage from any other area in the platform.

Please be aware that, with the March 2018 release, if you had set your homepage at the user level, it may change to the account default if your admin chooses a different page.

With the March 2018 release, the "home" button is now a company icon set by the account administrator. The icon displays in the top-left corner of the account's global navigation header.

As an administrator, you need to set a company icon once your account is updated for the March release. The icon defaults to the spring_logo logo. You need to change this in Admin Preferences. Your icon’s maximum display dimensions are 65px wide by 40px tall. Use a PNG with a transparent background for best results.

  1. Log into SpringCM with your administrator credentials.
  2. Click the Admin link. The Account Preferences page opens.
  3. Click the Branding link. The Branding: Logo and Colors page displays.
  4. Click the Upload a Different Icon button under Upload Company Branding Images > Current Icon. You are presented with two options:
    1. Drag and drop an icon from a folder on your computer.
    2. Click the Select a File button to open a file browser window.
  5. Click the Save button to launch the icon in your account.

Customize global actions

You can add custom actions to the new global-level Actions menu.

See the Customize Global Actions topic, and watch the demo!
